An Abuja-based journalist, Livinus Chibuike Victor, is set to make history by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest interviewing marathon, aiming for 72 hours and 30 seconds of non-stop interviews.

The event, which is tagged “Nigeria Our Strength,” is scheduled to happen at Harrow Park Golf Club off Ahmadu Bello Way, behind Abia House, Central Business District, Abuja. From April 17th to April 20th, 2025.
Livinus Chibuike Victor, who is a seasoned journalist and the publisher and CEO of Arabella Star Magazine, said his motivation for the challenge stems from his commitment to storytelling and amplifying voices.
As a journalist, I have always sought to share stories that inspire, inform, and impact society.”
“This record attempt provides an opportunity to push my limits, engage in meaningful conversations, and raise awareness for significant social issues,” He explained.
Speaking with newsmen at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council on the marathon, Victor stated that the record attempt aims to highlight the enduring impact of journalism in a democratic society, a profession that continues to educate, empower, and hold those in power accountable in an age where truth is often under siege.
He further noted that this initiative will draw attention to the essential need for a free, ethical, and fearless press.
“Democracy is impossible without an informed public, and journalists are the ones who make that possible. This attempt is not just about setting a new world record; it’s about celebrating truth, integrity, and the powerful role journalism plays in building and sustaining open societies.”
Victor emphasised the need to protect press freedom, invest in quality journalism, end the harassment of media professionals, and recognise the indispensable role of journalists in building and sustaining open societies.
“As misinformation spreads and trust in institutions wavers, professional journalism remains a vital defence against disinformation and manipulation,” he stated.
Speaking on what the event will be like, Victor stated that the Guinness World Record attempt will feature a series of engaging and thought-provoking interviews with notable individuals from diverse sectors, reflecting on national development, media ethics, civic responsibility, and freedom of expression.
He said the event will also include discussions on the challenges and prospects facing the Nigerian media industry, spotlighting the courage and resilience of practitioners who continue to work under difficult and, at times, dangerous circumstances.
Victor called on members of the public, media professionals, civic leaders, and advocates of democracy to be part of the experience by supporting and witnessing the event as it unfolds over the course of three inspiring days.
The longest interviewing marathon at present is 55 hours and 24 seconds. It was achieved by Chizoba Clara Kronborg (Nigeria) in Marbella, Spain, from 8 to 10 March 2024.
