Four emerging voices in Nigerian literature recently collaborated on an anthology of short stories and poems which was put together during their fellowship at the Ebedi International Writers Residency.
The collection, titled “A Mouthful of Rivers,” brings together the diverse talents of Omale Allen Abdul-jabbar, Seun Osho, Ayo Oyeku, and Nosakhare Collins in what critics are calling a rich tapestry of contemporary African storytelling.
Each writer brings a distinctive perspective to the anthology. Abdul-jabbar’s contributions feature lyrical prose and poetry that paint vivid landscapes of Nigerian life, while Osho delves deep into psychological narratives that explore the complexities of human nature.
The collection showcases versatility in both style and subject matter. Oyeku contributes with carefully crafted children’s narratives that examine cultural identity, while Collins rounds out the anthology with emotionally charged poems that tackle contemporary themes.
“A Mouthful of Rivers” represents a significant milestone for the Ebedi International Writers Residency programme, which continues to nurture and develop literary talent in Nigeria. The anthology addresses themes ranging from love and loss to cultural heritage and personal transformation.
The collaboration emerged during the writers’ residency period in Iseyin, demonstrating the programme’s success in fostering creative partnerships among emerging Nigerian writers.
