In an official statement signed by IFUDSA president, Adebayo Idris, the association described the incident as “a devastating loss” and urged students to support one another during difficult times.

“This loss is not just the departure of a promising young mind but a painful reminder of the silent battles many students face,” the statement read. “We encourage all members of our faculty to reach out to one another, offer support, and seek professional help when needed. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and no one should ever feel alone in their struggles,” he said.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for improved student welfare and mental health support to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This is not the first of such incident at OAU. Recall in 2021, a 200-level Accounting student, Emmanuel, reportedly died by suicide after ingesting pesticide. Two years earlier, in 2019, a student in the Department of English and Literature, Opeyemi Grace Dara, was also reported to have died by suicide.

The incident has drawn comments and reactions on social media, with responses ranging from deep sorrow to calls for proper auditing of student results and even criticism of the deceased’s decision.

“At work trying not to cry cus i just found out not only did one person commit suicide from OHS, but there was a second… and man… that shit just hurt different.. praying for us,” beautifulbrownie (@VivaLAliaa) wrote.

Virgin Doctor (Dr Acha)♥️ (@EzeahurukweAri1) wrote: “There’s a better life outside medical school and being a doctor, but you need to become a doctor to understand this. May God accept his soul and grant him the peace he wished.”

Others expressed frustration at the act.

“Why not just leave the school and go do something else? I hate stuff like this,” Geldy maverick 🥀 (@Geldymaverick) said.

Dfeared (@youngmaric1) was blunt: “He is a fool. An idiot. He is a selfish bastard.”

Others shared brief but heartfelt condolences:

“Rip Jib,” Smiley (@theayus2000) typed.
“People actually give too much importance to school walai,” Ghost 👻 (@Eaststpatrick) lamented.

Ajibola was said to have been facing academic challenges in recent years, which may have contributed to his tragic decision.

It was reported that the deceased had a similar result last year and failed again this year, a situation that could lead to an automatic withdrawal from the course under the university’s academic regulations.
