In an official statement released Thursday, the palace described the circulated comments as “fabricated” and part of a concerning pattern of attributing false statements to His Majesty, Nnaemeka Achebe (Agbogidi).

The palace characterised the alleged statements as not only inaccurate but deliberately inflammatory, designed to stir ethnic tensions. Chief of Staff to the Obi of Onitsha, Chief Osita Anionwu, signed the statement urging the public to disregard the spurious claims.
According to the palace, the traditional ruler has made no public pronouncements regarding the recent violence against northerners in Edo State.
The statement stated Obi’s longstanding commitment to promoting peace and harmony among all Nigerians regardless of ethnic or regional background. Palace officials called for unity and understanding rather than division during this sensitive period.
This denial comes amid increasing concerns about ethnic tensions and the spread of misinformation that could potentially exacerbate existing divisions in the country. The palace’s swift response appears aimed at preventing any escalation of tensions between northern and southern communities.
The Obi of Onitsha, a prominent traditional ruler in southeastern Nigeria, has historically advocated for inter-ethnic cooperation and national unity.
