The country’s seven major oil marketers have formally registered with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, paving the path for refined petroleum products to be distributed from the vast $20 billion plant.
On January 14, 2024, dealers affiliated with the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) verified this significant development and declared their willingness to begin distribution pending the finalisation of contractual arrangements.
The seven major marketers are 11 Plc (formerly Mobil Oil Nig. Plc), Conoil Plc, Ardova Plc, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, OVH Energy Marketing Limited, Total Nigeria Plc, and NNPC Retail. This is an important step in integrating their services into the operations of the refinery.
Later this week, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) plans to contact the Dangote refinery management to discuss terms for product loading. Also, the refinery and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) have been in active negotiations over product supply, subject to the completion of commercial arrangements.
The MOMAN Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Clement Isong Jr, announced that all MOMAN members have successfully registered with Dangote Petroleum Refinery to become authorised marketers of its products. Isong added that the members were looking forward to the start of manufacturing and expressed optimism that products would be available for purchase soon.
“I confirm that my members have registered with them. We were waiting for the production to start. Now that it has started, they will start discussing the commercial terms. The important thing was the registration,” he said.
“Once the commercial terms are agreed upon with each marketer, they will buy from them. There are several ways you can buy from them. They have over 90 loading ranks, so you can take your truck to go and pick it up. You can also use vessels to pick. Those are the two ways you pick products,” Isong further clarified.
Asked to state how soon marketers would start picking products from the plant, Isong said, “I don’t know, but I know we started registration last year. So as soon as they say they are ready, we will pick up the products. Also, as soon as the commercial terms are set, my members will pick.”
