The Webfala Digital Skills for All Initiative (WDSFAI) celebrates the graduation of over 100 female fellows from its first SafeHer STEM Skills program. The ceremony, which took place in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, concluded four months of intensive digital skills training.
Executive Director of WDSFaI, Nafisat Bakare, stated that the SafeHer initiative aims to empower women and girls by teaching them basic digital skills, encouraging self-reliance, and protecting them from Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
During the ceremony, Bakare revealed that the graduates received free hands-on training in software development, product design, and data science. They were also taught important soft skills like communication, teamwork, and branding, which helped them develop a more complete skill set.
Bakare congratulated the successful graduates and encouraged them to keep a sense of inquiry and openness to new experiences. She emphasised the world’s dynamic nature, encouraging flexibility and adaptability in the face of change. Bakare recognised the inevitability of problems but advised that perseverance and a positive attitude could overcome any obstacle.
“I want to encourage you to continue to strive for excellence and to pursue your goals with passion and drive. The skills and knowledge you have gained through the SafeHer programme will serve you well in the years to come.
“As you embark on the next chapter of your lives, remember that you have the knowledge and skills to create meaningful change in the world around you, as the future is full of possibilities,” Bakare admonished.
