Paradigm Initiative (PIN) has announced the commencement of applications for the Ajegunle Legacy Scholarship on August 1st, 2023. The scholarship aims to support talented students from underprivileged backgrounds in Ajegunle, Nigeria, a community pivotal in PIN’s early growth. The application period will remain open until September 30th, 2023.
In April 2023, PIN launched the scholarship as a way of giving back to the community and honouring individuals who have been instrumental in the organization’s growth. Named after the region in Lagos, the Ajegunle Legacy Scholarship focuses on providing financial support to resident youth and students pursuing university education in technology-related courses, including Information Technology (IT), Software Development, and Computer Engineering, among others.
The scholarship project consists of two arms – the prize and the scholarship. The prize arm will annually support two young individuals, one male and one female, from low-income families residing in Ajegunle to pursue higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) or Law.
This prestigious prize is named in memory of the late Taiwo Bankole Ogunyemi, a prominent volunteer who contributed significantly to PIN’s Life Programme, now known as the LIFE Legacy Programme. The LIFE Legacy Programme focuses on providing Life Skills, ICTs, Financial Readiness, and Entrepreneurship training to youth who lack the financial means to access relevant Information Communication Technology (ICT), Entrepreneurial, and Life skills necessary to compete in the job market.
The award aims to honour Taiwo Bankole Ogunyemi’s invaluable contribution in enhancing the lives of young people, particularly in the Ajegunle community.
Notably, PIN’s flagship LIFE Legacy Programme alone has positively impacted over 6,700 underprivileged African youth by providing enhanced livelihood opportunities through digital skills and protecting their online rights. The programme represents a capacity-building initiative designed to empower underprivileged youth in host communities.
Paradigm Initiative (PIN) has been a trailblazer in connecting underprivileged African youth with digital opportunities for the past 16 years while advocating for their digital rights and inclusion. The organisation’s journey began in 2007 when it started operations in a small cybercafé named Stadnet in Ajegunle before expanding its reach across Africa.
PIN’s presence now extends to several African countries, including Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Zambia, Zimbabwe, The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Kenya. The organisation’s coordinated efforts across Central, East, Southern, and West Africa have positioned it as a leading social enterprise in ICT for Development and Digital Rights on the continent.
