The 22-year-old Italian’s victory marks his fourth Grand Slam singles title and represents a breakthrough moment on the grass courts where he had previously struggled to find his rhythm against the Spanish superstar.

The Wimbledon champion

After dropping the opening set, Sinner mounted an impressive comeback to claim three consecutive sets and end Alcaraz’s remarkable 20-match winning streak at Wimbledon. The top seed’s victory was particularly significant, as it ended a frustrating five-match losing streak against the defending champion.

The match showcased the highest level of grass-court tennis, with both players displaying the shot-making ability and mental fortitude that have established them as the sport’s premier rivalry. However, it was Sinner who found the crucial breaks in the final three sets to turn the tide in his favour.

Sinner’s triumph is his first success at the All England Club after years of falling short on the grass courts.

The Italian’s ability to maintain his composure after losing the first set demonstrated the mental strength that has propelled him to the world No. 1 ranking. His powerful groundstrokes and improved net play proved decisive in the later stages of the match.

Carlos tastes defeat but vows to be back

The defeat marks the end of Alcaraz’s extraordinary run at Wimbledon, where he had appeared virtually unbeatable over the past three years. The Spanish player’s quest for a third consecutive title fell just short against an inspired Sinner, who finally solved the puzzle of his rival’s grass-court game.

“It is always difficult to lose, even if it is in the final. I have to congratulate Jannik once again. It is really well deserved and an unbelievable two weeks for you here in London,” Alcaraz said.

The victory shifts the momentum in one of tennis’s most compelling rivalries, with Sinner proving he can defeat Alcaraz on any surface when playing at his highest level. The result will undoubtedly fuel anticipation for their next encounter on the ATP Tour.

Sinner was determined to win

“First of all, I would like to start with Carlos, again, amazing tournament but mostly thank you for the player you are. It’s so difficult to play against you but we have, as you said, an amazing relationship off the court, and on the court we just try to build up and for doing that we need the best teams in the world and also you have the best team.”

“So keep going, keep pushing, you are going to hold many, many times this trophy, you have already two, so!”

Sinner also took a playful swipe at his brother, who turned up to watch his match.

“It’s so special because seeing my parents here, my brother, my whole team, it’s amazing. Actually, a special thanks to my brother because there is no Formula 1 race this weekend, that’s why he’s here!”

On how he was able to put the Roland Garros loss behind him, he said, “I had a very tough loss in Paris, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter how you win or you lose important tournaments, you just have to understand what you did wrong and work on that.”

“That’s what we did. We tried to accept the loss and keep working, and this is for sure one of the reasons that I hold this trophy here. I am so happy I am healthy and have great people around me, which is the most important part, and having this trophy with me means a lot.”
