Ten Things Benue Governor Will Retire With For Life

Outgoing Benue Governor Dr Samuel Ortom is likely to be the first beneficiary of the new law, but his successor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, is already frowning at his financial dealings even before the latter takes office.

    Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, incoming Governor, who is already frowning at Ortom’s financial dealings

    One: A monthly stipend equivalent to the salary of a serving/incumbent Governor of the state for life and which shall be charge on the consolidated Revenue Funds of the State.

    Two: The Deputy Governor shall enjoy a monthly stipend equivalent to the salary of an incumbent Deputy Governor for life and shall be charged on the consolidated Revenue Funds of the State.

    The third is: A residential permanent accommodation in any town of their choice, built by the State in Nigeria. (You bet that would be in Abuja!)

    Number four. The former Governor shall drive away with four official cars (with a driver each) and all shall be maintained by the State. While the Deputy Governor shall have 2 official cars.

    Number five is Six personal staffs for the former Governor to be paid for by the state.

    Namely:

    i. One Personal Assistant

    ii. Two Drivers

    iii. Two cleaners

    iv. One cook

    Six: Three personal staff members for the former Deputy Governor to be paid for by the State.

    Namely:

    i. One Personal Assistant

    ii.One Driver

    iii. One Cleaner

    Seven: Security personnel on 24-hour guard and surveillance as he may direct them in his lifetime.

    Eight: Medical expenses for themselves, spouses and at least four children under the age of not more than 18 years.

    Nine: The vehicles shall be replaced every 4 years as the case may be with new ones of the same quality.

    Number 10, which is what you been waiting for is: Expenses for two trips abroad per year for the former Governor, and one trip per year for the former Deputy Governor shall be taken care of by the State.

    Note:

    1. The entitlements of the former Governor and former Deputy Governor may be monetised for in accordance with the extant monetary policy of the State.

    2. The Governor and Deputy shall not enjoy another emolument from Federal or State Government once they are placed on benefit under this law.

    3. The law applies to democratically elected Governors and Deputies under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
