The precision airstrikes targeted the mountain enclaves of Wa Jahode and Loghpere, locations that intelligence reports indicated had become major staging areas for the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad faction of Boko Haram.
Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the Sunday operation under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) was launched after surveillance missions revealed clear signs of terrorist resurgence in the border region.

“The strikes followed confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance missions revealing clusters of structures fitted with solar panels, black flags, and fortified compounds,” Ejodame stated, describing these as “clear signs of insurgent resurgence and preparations for coordinated attacks.”
The targeted locations in the rugged volcanic mountain range had recently witnessed increased terrorist activity, including reports of logistics build-up and the presence of senior JAS commanders, according to military intelligence.
The coordinated air interdictions destroyed critical terrorist infrastructure, including logistics warehouses, command centres, and defensive shelters, effectively disrupting supply chains that had been supporting planned offensive operations.
The Mandara Mountains, stretching across Nigeria’s northeastern border with Cameroon, have long provided natural fortification for terrorist groups seeking to evade military operations. The challenging terrain of the volcanic range has historically made ground operations difficult, making air strikes a preferred tactical approach.
Military sources indicate the operation represents part of ongoing efforts to prevent terrorist groups from establishing permanent bases in border regions where they can coordinate cross-border activities and rebuild their operational capacity.
“NAF strike aircraft executed a series of well-coordinated air interdictions, targeting and destroying high-value terrorist infrastructure,” Ejodame confirmed, noting that the operation successfully neutralised several terrorists while degrading their capability to sustain further attacks.
The Air Force spokesman stated the military’s commitment to sustained operations against terrorist networks across Nigeria’s troubled regions, stating that the service “remains resolute to sustain ongoing onslaught against terrorists and restore lasting peace to all troubled regions across the country.”
Intelligence reports suggesting the presence of solar panels and organised compound structures indicated the terrorists had been working to establish a more permanent operational base in the mountain region, making the preemptive strikes strategically important for disrupting long-term terrorist planning.
