President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the construction of Phase 2B of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge, marking a significant infrastructure development in the southeast region.
The event, held on Tuesday, saw President Tinubu represented by Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo. The project aims to address connectivity challenges that have limited the full potential of the Second Niger Bridge, which was inaugurated in 2023.

The ambitious infrastructure project includes a 17.5-kilometre dual carriageway featuring seven bridges and advanced security infrastructure. The road will extend from the Umunya/Ogbunike axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, passing through key interchanges, including Old Enugu Road, Ogidi, Nkpor-Umuoji, and Asaba-Igbuzor, and concluding at Valley Bridge.
Minister of Works Dave Umahi praised the project’s potential, highlighting Anambra State’s ongoing 18 federal road projects. He stated that contract payments would be performance-linked, with 30 percent of the contract sum already disbursed.
“The road will significantly improve regional connectivity and economic opportunities,” Umahi stated, urging local communities to support the project and prevent potential disruptions.
The contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited, represented by General Manager Gius Cheng, committed to completing the project on schedule while maintaining high-quality standards.
Umahi also reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the Southeast region, pointing to key appointments of individuals from the region in strategic government positions.
The project is expected to enhance transportation infrastructure, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities in the southeast and surrounding regions.
