President Bola Tinubu will travel to Accra today to witness the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect, John Mahama. Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s president from 2011 to 2017, secured his return to office in the December 2024 elections and will succeed outgoing President Nana Akuffo-Addo.
“Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship,” the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement.
The inauguration, scheduled for January 7, will draw numerous African heads of state, with Tinubu’s presence carrying additional significance in his role as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and several senior government officials are expected to be part of the Nigerian delegation. They are expected to return shortly after the ceremony.
