Olumide is wanted in connection with fraud-related offences that caused significant financial losses to U.S. victims. He has managed to stay one step ahead of investigators since the early 2000s, according to federal authorities who announced the reward on Wednesday.

Persistent Evasion Tactics

The 47-to-52-year-old fugitive has demonstrated a remarkable ability to avoid detection, reportedly moving across multiple countries and altering his appearance to evade capture. His case represents one of the longest-running international manhunts in recent FBI history.

“Adediran has been a fugitive for far too long,” the FBI stated. “We remain determined to bring him to justice, and we believe someone, somewhere, has information that can help us close this case.”

Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office, James Smith, stated the Bureau’s unwavering commitment despite the passage of time. “Our message is clear: no matter how long it takes, we will continue to pursue fugitives who think they can escape justice.”

Advanced Technology Boosts Investigation

While early 2000s technology limitations initially hampered the investigation, federal officials believe current advances in digital surveillance, border monitoring, and international policing partnerships have significantly improved their chances of apprehending Adediran.

The FBI has launched a comprehensive public awareness campaign, updating Adediran’s profile on the Bureau’s “Most Wanted” fugitives list and distributing flyers and digital posters across the U.S. and internationally, particularly in regions where the suspect may have connections.

International Cooperation Framework

Adediran’s case highlights the complex dynamics of U.S.-Nigeria law enforcement cooperation. The Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between both countries provides a framework for investigations, extradition, and prosecution of cross-border suspects.

Legal analysts note that if Adediran is located within Nigerian territory, extradition proceedings could commence under the treaty, though such processes typically require court approval and adherence to both domestic and international law.

A senior official in Abuja, speaking anonymously to Nigeria Stories, indicated Nigeria’s willingness to cooperate: “Nigeria maintains strong ties with the United States in law enforcement matters. If credible information points to Mr. Adediran residing in Nigeria, the proper legal processes will be followed.”

Part of Broader Pattern

The case reflects ongoing challenges with Nigerian nationals implicated in international financial crimes. The FBI has previously released lists of wanted Nigerian citizens involved in large-scale fraud operations targeting U.S. citizens and institutions.

Meanwhile, Nigerian officials consistently point out that individual criminal actions should not define the country’s reputation or its citizens collectively.

Public Appeal for Information

Federal authorities stress that all tips will be treated with strict confidentiality, with informants not required to reveal their identities if they fear retaliation. Information can be submitted through the FBI’s website, field offices, or international law enforcement channels.

“Someone knows where Adediran is hiding,” the Bureau reiterated. “We are appealing to the conscience of the public—help us bring him in.”

The $10,000 reward is approximately ₦14 million, potentially motivating international informants to provide crucial leads in the case.

Justice Delayed, Not Denied

The FBI’s persistent pursuit sends a clear message to international criminal networks that time does not diminish accountability. “This case is a reminder that time does not erase responsibility,” an FBI spokesperson noted. “Regardless of how many years have passed, fugitives cannot escape accountability.”
