South African newcomer Tyla has achieved a groundbreaking victory at the 2024 Grammy Awards, securing the prestigious Best African Music Performance Award for her hit track “Water,” beating Nigeria’s music heavyweights like Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Star.

With a remarkable 124 million streams in 2023, the song set Tyla to become the highest-charting African female soloist ever on the Billboard Hot 100.

Reacting to the 66th Grammy Awards results, popular Nigerian artist Davido took to the X platform (formerly Twitter) to congratulate the “Water” crooner on her win. The post has three million views and over 100k likes.

Meanwhile, fans of Davido took to the X platform to express their disappointment in his ‘loss’ while reassuring him of their love for his music.
