The commitment came during a productive meeting at UNESCO’s Accra office between Mr. Edmond Moukala, UNESCO Representative in Ghana, and representatives of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) and Driving Park film production company.

Secretary General of PAWA, Dr. Wale Okediran, and the Executive Producer of Driving Park, Madam Ruby Ofori, briefed Mr. Moukala on the progress of the Film Africa Network (FAN), a continental initiative designed to support African filmmakers through enhanced distribution channels.

The discussions centred on how FAN will empower filmmakers across Africa to promote cultural exchange while creating sustainable platforms for authentic African storytelling. The network represents an ambitious effort to address distribution challenges that have historically limited the reach of African cinema.

Mr. Moukala congratulated both PAWA and Driving Park for what he described as a “bold and new initiative,” pledging UNESCO’s assistance in bringing African cinema to wider global audiences. The UNESCO Representative’s endorsement signals potential international backing for the distribution network.

The Film Africa Network initiative aims to strengthen Africa’s creative economy and ensure that African stories reach both continental and international markets. The collaboration between PAWA, a literary organisation, and Driving Park, a film production company, demonstrates the convergence of different creative sectors in promoting African narratives.

Details about the specific mechanisms of support from UNESCO and the timeline for implementing the Film Africa Network were not disclosed following the meeting.
