The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has issued a call for qualified consultants to support its specialised technical areas and fixed-duration projects.
The organisation is looking to expand its database of specialists who can be deployed on short notice for various climate-related initiatives. These consulting opportunities cover a wide range of expertise levels, from junior specialists with three to seven years of experience to senior specialists with over 17 years in their field.
Consultants working on specialised technical areas may serve for up to 24 consecutive months before a mandatory break in service, while those in support functions are limited to nine-month terms. Compensation varies based on assignment complexity and required expertise, with payment structures that can be output-based, monthly, weekly, or daily.
The positions require formal academic education in the relevant field of expertise for technical roles or at least three years of relevant work experience for all positions. English fluency and computer proficiency are mandatory for all applicants.
Interested professionals must register an online CV in the UNFCCC’s database, where profiles remain active for 12 months. The organisation emphasised that only independent consultants may apply through this process, while those affiliated with institutions should explore procurement opportunities separately.
Consultants may work remotely, at UNFCCC offices, or at climate conferences, depending on assignment requirements. While consultants receive compensation according to UNFCCC guidelines, they are considered independent contractors rather than staff members and do not hold official status under United Nations Staff Regulations.
The UNFCCC maintains separate databases for consultancy and regular recruitment, requiring interested candidates to register specifically for consultant opportunities even if they have previously applied for staff positions.
For additional information or registration assistance, the organisation has established a dedicated email contact at consultantdatabase@unfccc.int.
