The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has unveiled a 500-capacity lecture theatre and a new College of Health Sciences building, aimed at improving learning conditions and expanding student intake.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aisha Maikudi revealed that the infrastructure projects were funded through the 2014 NEEDS Assessment initiative and 2021 TetFund annual intervention. The developments come in response to a Ministry of Health directive to double medical student quotas.

Currently limited to 75 medical student slots, the college plans to increase capacity to 150 and potentially accommodate up to 250 students. The college provost, Prof. Titus Ibekwe, noted overwhelming demand, with over 3,000 applicants competing for limited positions.
“As the only federal university in the FCT, we have high demand from prospective students,” Maikudi explained. “Increasing our capacity will allow us to admit more students.” She added that this would also enable them to prepare for re-accreditation by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
The event concluded with the vice-chancellor formally handing over keys to the new college building.
