At a ceremony held in Yola to commemorate the start of providing educational resources and facilities for school games, the UNICEF Education Consultant for the Bauchi field office, Mr. Joel Jutum, emphasised the organisation’s dedication to guaranteeing that every child returns to school after the insurgency in the northeast.

“UNICEF in partnership with our generous donors, including the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, Global Partnership for Education, Education Cannot Wait, Norwegian Embassy Towards Safe School Initiative Programme and the Adamawa State government, constructed and renovated classrooms, and installed perimeter fences, toilets, and instructional facilities across 125 schools in the state from 2021 to date,” he explained.

“Today marks a significant moment in our collective journey towards ensuring every child in Adamawa has access to quality education and learning opportunities,” Mr. Jutum added.

The Governor of Adamawa state, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Education, Mr. Adamu Babakoi, applauded UNICEF’s efforts to promote education in the state. He stated that the provision of school bags and other key learning resources demonstrates the organisation’s dedication to enhancing educational outcomes for Adamawa’s youngsters.

He emphasised that education is a primary priority for the current administration and that the government has achieved tremendous progress in altering Adamawa State’s educational landscape.

“We have ensured that every child in the state has access to free and quality education at the basic level. This initiative has significantly increased school enrollment, thereby reducing the number of children roaming our streets. Our government has taken the responsibility of paying for WAEC, NECO, and BECE national examinations for our students,” he stated.
