USAID’s Nigeria office has issued a call for concepts from qualified Nigerian organisations to implement a new $40 million Primary Healthcare Improvement Programme. Interested organisations must submit their concept papers by November 15, 2023.
The five-year programme will be funded in two phases, with an initial allocation of $24 million for the first three years, followed by $16 million for the final two years, subject to funding availability.
The initiative aims to support Nigeria’s transition to a unified healthcare approach by integrating the country’s planning, budgeting, and reporting systems. A key focus will be developing networks of service providers across primary and secondary healthcare facilities to ensure continuous, well-coordinated patient care throughout their lives, moving away from disease-specific approaches.
The programme will complement USAID/Nigeria’s existing healthcare initiatives, including projects focused on healthcare workforce development, health insurance expansion, community health programmes, behavioural change communication, and health information systems strengthening.
To qualify for funding, organisations must be legally registered in Nigeria, maintain their primary operations within the country, and be majority-owned (51%) and managed by Nigerian citizens or permanent residents. USAID particularly encourages applications from organisations that have not previously received its funding.
