UVic ‘Big Talk’ to Host Renowned Historian Prof. Asiwaju

The University of Victoria’s Centre for Global Studies (UVic) is set to host Professor Anthony I. Asiwaju, a distinguished Emeritus Professor of Comparative African History and Borderlands Studies at the University of Lagos, as a featured speaker in its upcoming “Big Talk” webinar series.

The event is planned for May 26th, 2025, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM PST (6:00 to 7:30 PM WAT) and will be held in the UVic Sedgewick Building Room C168 and online via Zoom.

Renowned for his extensive work on African border studies, Professor Asiwaju will bring decades of academic insight and cross-continental perspective to the discussion. The event is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Government of Canada.

Folusho Oluwole has expertise in research and translation, data collection, scriptwriting and editing, content creation and management, media relations and TV presentation. She has worked on projects for United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), National Home Grown School Feeding Program (NHGSFP)/ Partnership for Child Development, Civil Society- Scaling up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Partners West Africa Nigeria (PWAN), Akweya TV Limited, and Isu Media Limited. A graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, holding a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication, Ms Oluwole was researcher and language translator for the United States Institute for Peace (USIP) documentary project titled “Unwrapping Our Peace”.
