The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) welcomed esteemed new members into its ranks during a prestigious induction ceremony on August 24, 2023. Notable among the distinguished inductees were the Vice Chancellor of Benue State University, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu, and Senator Osita Izunaso, representing Imo West Senatorial District. The event took place at the NAF Conference Centre in Kado, Abuja, as a key highlight of the Annual General Meeting and Election of the NIPR.

Guiding the induction was Mallam Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo, the President of NIPR, who encouraged the new Fellows to wholeheartedly embrace their augmented responsibilities. He urged them to be advocates for the vulnerable, amplifiers of marginalised voices, and champions of humanity.

In an exclusive interview with AkweyaTV, Senator Izunaso and Colonel Samuel Kinsley Mfon (Rtd.) shared their perspectives on their newly acquired status as NIPR Fellows. Both expressed optimism about the positive impact they can have as part of the NIPR community.

Speaking with AkweyaTV, Adesua Anthony Omololu underscored the paramount importance of effective leadership in shaping a robust following. He applauded Nigeria’s well-structured public relations practices.

Esteemed dignitaries, including DIG Frank Mba, representing the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, conveyed goodwill messages during the induction ceremony. DIG Mba assured attendees of their security in Abuja and reiterated the commitment to enforcing the stipulation that Public Relations Officers hold NIPR charters.

Culminating the event was the election of new board members and the president of NIPR. Dr. Ike Neliaku emerged as president, with Prof. Emmanuel Samu Dandaura assuming the role of vice president.

Themed “Leadership, Public Relations, and Value Creation,” the Annual General Meeting convened a diverse assembly of participants and dignitaries. Notably in attendance was the honourable Minister for Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed. The event underscored the pivotal role of public relations in nurturing understanding, trust, and collaboration within communities and organisations, thereby illuminating the path towards a more promising future.
