WAEC announced Thursday that technical bugs were found in results following the implementation of a new paper serialisation system designed to combat examination malpractice. The innovation, which the council said is already used by other national examination bodies and represents best assessment practices, was applied to Mathematics, English Language, Biology and Economics papers.
Acting Head of Public Affairs Moyosola Adesina said that the council identified the technical issues during routine post-release procedures and has decided to urgently review and correct the problems. As a result, the result checker portal has been temporarily shut down while corrections are made.
“The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation,” Adesina stated in the official announcement.
WAEC issued apologies to affected candidates and the general public, requesting patience as the organisation works to resolve the matter. The council promised to address the issues “with transparency and urgency within the next twenty-four hours.”
Candidates who previously accessed their results have been advised to re-check after 24 hours from the Thursday announcement. The examination body reiterated its commitment to “upholding excellence, fairness and transparency in all our assessment processes.”
The paper serialisation system was intended as an anti-fraud measure, but it appears to have created unintended complications in the results processing system.
