Humble Beginning
Michael Ogbogo, popularly known by his stage name 4Face, is an emerging Afrobeats artist with a story of passion, persistence, and resilience. His latest single, “That Village Boy,” reflects his journey from humble beginnings to pursuing his dreams against all odds.
Born and raised in a small village in Otobi, Otukpo Local Government of Benue State, 4Face discovered his passion for music early. At just 10 years old, while in Primary 4, he began singing and nurturing dreams of a musical career. Inspired by the Plantashun Boiz—particularly 2Face, Blackface, and Faze—he adopted the name 4Face as a tribute to their influence and as a representation of his own journey.
In his early years, 4Face performed at local shows in his community, even without access to a recording studio. His first studio experience came in 2015 when he recorded “Be My Lady” and “Happy Day,” the latter dedicated to his sister’s wedding. Since then, he has created a catalogue of over 50 songs, with many yet to be released.
The Story Behind “That Village Boy”
“That Village Boy” is a deeply personal track that addresses the criticism and skepticism 4Face has faced throughout his career. Growing up, he often heard people dismiss his potential, labelling him as “just a village boy” and suggesting that he couldn’t succeed unless he moved to a bigger city like Lagos.
Determined to prove them wrong, 4Face used these doubts as fuel for his ambition. His song reflects this journey—turning negativity into motivation and demonstrating that talent and determination can thrive anywhere, even in a small village.
Progress and Positive Reception
Despite facing challenges, including a lack of sponsorship, 4Face has consistently pushed forward. His music resonates with listeners, earning him an overwhelmingly positive response, with most of his fans praising his work and encouraging him to keep going.
His recent music video for the track “Life” was released on October 10th, and he has plans for another video shoot in December, with a January release date. Though he hasn’t yet released a full album, 4Face continues to refine his craft and share his story through impactful singles.
Music as a Medium for Change
For 4Face, music is not just entertainment—it’s a powerful tool for storytelling and societal impact. His lyrics often reflect his personal struggles, triumphs, and the realities of his community. He emphasises the importance of delivering meaningful messages through his songs, aiming to inspire and uplift his audience.
4Face credits his fans as the driving force behind his journey. Their unwavering support at shows, online, and in the community motivates him to keep creating. Despite lacking financial sponsors, he considers his fans his family and expresses deep gratitude for their encouragement.
Looking Ahead
With plans to release more music videos and eventually an album, 4Face is committed to growing as an artist and sharing his unique perspective with the world. His journey from “that village boy” to an emerging star is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and staying true to one’s roots.
4Face’s story and music remind us all that dreams are valid, no matter where they begin. Through his artistry, he continues to inspire others to believe in themselves and pursue their passions relentlessly.
