According to AkweyaTV’s correspondent Opeh Joseph Ochinya, the festival’s festive eve event was held at the traditional Ojira Oleonwe Playground. At this place the villagers, including esteemed elders and groups of excited children, gathered in a large, decorated hut to immerse themselves in the ancient art of storytelling.

As is customary with African oral traditions, the atmosphere was electric as competitors took turns using a megaphone to share short, moral-laden tales. The narratives were beautifully interlaced with energetic singing in a classic call-and-response style, with the audience enthusiastically participating, creating a deeply communal and interactive experience.

After a series of enthralling performances, the judges deliberated and announced the winners of the highly anticipated competition.
Chief Ogbuche Agbo was declared the winner, captivating the audience and judges with his masterful delivery and profound storytelling. He took first place, cementing his status as a custodian of the community’s oral history.
He was closely followed by Godwin Igah, whose performance earned him a well-deserved second place. Maria Agbo rounded out the top three, taking third place with her engaging and spirited tale.
The event was held under the distinguished chairmanship of Hon. Engr. Friday Ekoja.
