A fully-funded training workshop aimed at tackling land degradation in African agriculture will be held in Senegal this April, organisers announced on Monday.
The five-day workshop, “Building Resilient Agriculture Systems: Sustainable Land Management and Restoration for Africa’s Agricultural Future,” will bring together professionals from across the continent to address critical challenges affecting food security and ecosystem sustainability.
Hosted by AfricaRice and the G20 Global Land Initiative, the workshop will take place from April 21-25 in Saint Louis, Senegal. It will feature comprehensive training on restoring degraded land, improving soil health, and implementing climate-smart agricultural approaches.

Dr. Elliott Dossou-Yovo, an agronomist and water management specialist at AfricaRice will lead the training alongside Dr. Mohamed Abd Salam El Vilaly from the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
The workshop will combine classroom sessions at the AfricaRice Regional Centre with field-based training in the Senegal River Valley. Participants will explore sustainable landscape management practices while engaging with local stakeholders.
The programme is open to scientists, researchers, extension officers, policymakers, and agricultural practitioners working in Africa. Selected participants will receive full funding to attend.
To apply for this training workshop, applicants are to complete the online application form including a motivation statement (maximum 100 words) explaining why they are interested in this training and how it aligns with their work.
Applications will be accepted until March 15, with successful candidates to be notified by March 31. Instruction will be available in both English and French.
