Emergency services responded to a 10:00 a.m. local time call reporting the medical emergency.

Hogan, born Terry Bollea, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The towering figure in sports entertainment rose to unprecedented fame during the 1980s and 1990s, transforming professional wrestling from niche entertainment into mainstream pop culture phenomenon. His trademark red and yellow attire, “Real American” entrance theme, and devoted “Hulkamaniac” fanbase made him instantly recognisable worldwide.

Hogan’s career extended far beyond the wrestling ring. He starred alongside Sylvester Stallone in “Rocky III” and maintained his wrestling presence well into his 50s, demonstrating remarkable longevity in a physically demanding sport.

The wrestling community has responded with an outpouring of grief and admiration. WWE co-founder Vince McMahon, despite their complicated professional relationship, declared Hogan “the greatest WWE Superstar of all time” and praised him as a “global phenomenon.”

Fellow wrestling icon Ric Flair expressed deep personal loss, stating that Hogan’s friendship “meant the world to me” and adding, “Hulkster, no one will ever compare to you.”

Hollywood also mourned the loss. Stallone remembered his “Rocky III” co-star as “absolutely wonderful,” crediting Hogan’s “amazing skill” with making their film “incredibly special.”

Political figures joined the chorus of condolences. President Donald Trump offered sympathies to Hogan’s family, describing him as “MAGA all the way – Strong, tough, smart, but with the biggest heart.”

Hogan’s legacy, however, remains complex. His career faced significant controversy in recent years, including his temporary removal from the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015 after racist comments surfaced on tape. He was reinstated in 2018 following public apologies and efforts at reconciliation.

During the 2024 election campaign, Hogan drew attention for his political statements, including criticism of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Despite controversies, Hogan’s impact on American entertainment cannot be overstated. He bridged the gap between athletic competition and theatrical performance, helping establish the template for modern sports entertainment that continues today.

He lived, he wrestled, he conquered

His crossover appeal extended professional wrestling’s reach into mainstream American culture, making him one of the most recognisable athletes of his generation. The “Hulkamania” phenomenon he created influenced countless performers who followed.

Hogan’s death marks the end of an interesting chapter in professional wrestling history.
