Iran is expected to receive 16 Su-35 fighter jets from Russia by 2027, marking a significant upgrade to its air force capabilities. The production line for these advanced jets entered the 2024 production cycle, with the first unit expected to fly in Iranian skies by 2026. Iran made the first payment for the fighter jets in 2024, highlighting its commitment to modernizing its military.

The Su-35 is a 4.5-generation multirole fighter with advanced radar systems, thrust-vectoring engines, and long-range capabilities, making it a significant addition to Iran’s aging fleet. The acquisition is seen as a major boost to Iran’s national defense and a shift in the regional military balance.

Iran’s air force currently relies on outdated aircraft, including U.S.-made F-4s, F-5s, and F-14s, which have been in service for decades. The introduction of Su-35s is expected to enhance Iran’s air defense capabilities and project power across the Persian Gulf.
