This was after the Kogi Central senator pleaded “Not Guilty” to the three-count defamation charges brought against her by the federal government.

The defamation case against Sen. Natasha is hinged on a comment on a live television broadcast, where she was alleged to have claimed that former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and Senate president Godswill Akpabio are plotting to assassinate her.

Meanwhile, in her ruling admitting the lawmaker into bail, Justice Orji rejected the application by the prosecution to remand the lawmaker in custody pending the determination of her case.

Justice Orji stated that she found no reason to deny the defendant bail. She noted that there is sufficient evidence that she is willing to stand trial.

This ruling was on section 36 of the 1999 constitution as amended and sections 163 and 165 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

Consequently, aside from the N50m, the court held that the defendant must produce one surety who is a person of integrity, resident in Abuja, and has a landed property within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to 23 September 2025 for the commencement of trial.
