In a New Year message, the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pi-CNG, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, said the initiative, which began as a response to economic shocks and rising fuel costs, has matured into a structured national pathway delivering measurable benefits to citizens, businesses, and the broader economy.

According to him, within one year of implementation, the initiative has activated CNG infrastructure across the country, strengthened gas supply chains, trained thousands of Nigerians, and unlocked over $2 billion in private sector investment. He added that strategic memoranda of understanding signed with local and international partners have also laid the groundwork for domestic manufacturing and the expansion of electric mobility.
“What started as a response to immediate economic pressures has evolved into an operational reality,” Ahmed said. “Pi-CNG and EVs are no longer aspirations. They are delivering cost relief, creating jobs, and supporting a more sustainable transport system.”
He noted that the global CNG and EV market is already a billion-dollar industry and argued that Nigeria’s population size, extensive natural gas reserves, renewable energy potential, and large domestic market give the country a competitive advantage in the sector.
Ahmed said the focus for 2026, under the next phase tagged Pi-CNG 2.0, will be on scaling infrastructure, deepening localisation, accelerating investment, and delivering solutions that reduce transport costs, cut emissions, and strengthen national energy security.
“Our commitment remains clear: to expand CNG stations and EV charging infrastructure, unlock further investment, and build a resilient, multi-energy transport ecosystem that is affordable, accessible, and scalable,” he said.
The Pi-CNG chairman expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and policy leadership, as well as to partners across government, industry, finance, and the transport sector for their collaboration.
He concluded by expressing optimism that Nigeria’s clean mobility journey will continue to gain momentum in the coming year, describing the country’s prospects in the sector as strong and forward-looking.
