Commissioner of Police Miller G. Dantawaye ordered the deployment of operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Police Mobile Force, and Counter Terrorism Unit to work alongside divisional formations in what the command described as an extensive cleanup operation beginning this month.

The sustained operation aims to identify, dislodge, and apprehend criminal elements operating within the territory, with officers directed to maintain constant presence in black spots and areas deemed security risks, according to a statement released on Sunday by police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh.

Dantawaye warned personnel involved in the operation to execute their duties professionally, stating that “no lapse, misconduct, or act of unprofessionalism will be tolerated under any guise.” Officers have been instructed to uphold standards of discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights throughout the exercise.

The police commissioner stated that the operation would be conducted “with intensity and consistency” to sustain the relative peace currently experienced by FCT residents and to prevent criminal elements from establishing or maintaining footholds in the capital territory.

Police authorities called on residents to cooperate with security personnel during the operation and to remain vigilant about suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.

“Collaboration between security agencies and residents remains vital to achieving lasting peace,” the statement said, urging residents to report unfamiliar faces, suspicious movements, or unusual activities to the nearest police station.

The command provided emergency contact numbers for residents:

– FCT Police Control Room: 0806 158 1938, 0803 200 3913

– Crime Response Unit: 0810 731 4192

Abuja, as Nigeria’s capital city, hosts diplomatic missions, government institutions, and a growing population, making security a priority concern for both residents and authorities. The FCT Police Command regularly conducts targeted operations to disrupt criminal networks and maintain order in the territory.

Tactical teams expected to maintain visible presence in target areas throughout the period.
