The Chief Executive Officer of Akweya Entertainment, a subsidiary of Akweya TV Limited, Mr. Odoh Diego Okenyodo, has explained the motivation behind the release of the Akweya Music Mix, describing the project as a celebration of Akweya musical excellence and a bold statement about the global potential of the Akweya language and its artistes.
According to Mr. Okenyodo, the 54-minute compilation was created to showcase the wealth of musical talent within the Akweya community while making it easier for audiences around the world to discover and enjoy Akweya music in one collection.

He said the project also responds to repeated requests from music lovers who complained that they could not find a comprehensive playlist of Akweya songs online for seamless listening and dancing.
“We made this as part of our project to make the world know what abounds in Akweya, the language, in particular, because we know Akweya is not a dialect of any language,” Mr. Okenyodo said.
The music executive noted that the mixtape is intended not only to entertain but also to preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Akweya people through contemporary music.
Featuring songs by more than ten artistes, the compilation brings together established and emerging voices in a rich blend of Afrobeats, pop, dancehall, reggae, and dub poetry. It also includes previously unreleased acapella versions of Matoski’s Osirigude, Lady C’s Ode Akweya and Young Success’s Enerema.

Mr. Okenyodo said the project also serves as a tribute to late Akweya music icons Don Cladeo (Adeyi Clement Ogbuja) and Klino Ranks, whose songs recorded almost 30 years ago are featured on the compilation.
“Even though two of them, Don Cladeo (Adeyi Clement Ogbuja) and Klino Ranks are no more, we wanted those who remember them, alongside the younger generation, to recognise that these persons contributed immensely to the entertainment sector in Nigeria and also back home,” he said.
The Akweya Music Mix includes tracks by Lady C, Matoski, Young Success, Don Cladeo, Clement Adeyi Ogbuja, Amedide (formerly known as Amed O), 4Face, Okenyodo, PrinceKid, Nicky Blinki, JayKax (formerly TheCent), the versatile music producer Young B Supa Son, and Klino Ranks.
The compilation is currently available on Audiomack, with plans to release it on additional digital streaming platforms in the coming weeks.
Akweya Entertainment says the project is part of a broader initiative to preserve, promote, and project Akweya language, culture, and creative expression to audiences across Nigeria and around the world.
“This is just the first in a series because there are many Akweya artists not included in this collection, such as the award-winning Monica Ogah and Evangelist Evans Egbe, who are gospel artists, and Honcho Honcho and Cop Jay based in Kaduna, as well as many others in Ghana and beyond.”
