The leadership transition concludes the interim directorship of Jennifer Orgle, who maintained organisational stability during the transitional period. Orgle, a seasoned programme manager with over 20 years of experience managing development and humanitarian programmes across more than 15 countries, guided the organisation through what CARE described as an important transition phase.

Orgle brings extensive expertise in complex project management, strategy execution, and financial oversight, with demonstrated ability to align multi-million-dollar programmes with donor priorities and national development strategies. Her experience includes partnerships with major donors, including USAID, BMGF, GAC, FCDO, and the European Union.

Her educational background includes an Executive Master of Public Health from Emory University, and she maintains fluency in English with working knowledge of French. Orgle has particular expertise in gender equality and women’s empowerment initiatives.

CARE Nigeria characterised Dr. Abdu’s return as representing both continuity and renewal for the organisation. The announcement acknowledged ongoing challenges while highlighting opportunities to strengthen the organisation’s presence, diversify partnerships, and develop innovative approaches for long-term impact.

The organisation reaffirmed its core mission commitments, including promoting social justice, empowering women and girls, and building resilient communities across Nigeria. These priorities align with CARE’s global focus on addressing inequality and supporting vulnerable populations.

Dr. Abdu’s previous leadership period saw CARE Nigeria champion gender equality initiatives and establish stronger organisational foundations that supported programme expansion beyond the organisation’s initial focus areas.

The leadership transition comes as humanitarian and development organisations in Nigeria face complex challenges, particularly regarding funding and operational expertise to maintain programme effectiveness and expand impact in communities across the country.
