The Central Planning Committee of the Mbadede Carnival 2025 has released the names of individuals selected to receive awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to community development and societal growth. The awards will be presented during the grand finale of the carnival on Thursday, 26 December 2025, at RCM Primary School, Ihugh, in Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State, beginning at 11:00 a.m. prompt, according to a statement made available to AkweyaTV by one of the organisers, the artist Fidel Shamel.

Foremost among the awardees is the late Mr. Jeremiah Iorliam Kyuka, who will be honoured posthumously for his pioneering role in public service and community development. Born in 1932 and passing on February 27, 1987, Mr. Kyuka made history as the first Surveyor General of Benue State, serving in the Ministry of Lands and Survey from 1979 to 1986. A native of Mbawuar, Mbashiba, Mbadede, he was instrumental in the planning of towns and settlements across the state and was widely respected for his commitment to empowering communities and improving public infrastructure.
Also to be honoured is Sir James Aondoakaa Iorpuu, PhD, in recognition of his distinguished professional and intellectual contributions to society, particularly in advancing knowledge and service within his field of endeavour. The committee also selected Chief Dr. Joseph Terwase Har for his leadership, philanthropy, and sustained commitment to the social and economic development of his community.
Evangelist Mrs. Grace Rose Uzer is among the awardees for her lifelong dedication to faith-based service, moral leadership, and positive social impact, especially through community and humanitarian outreach. The carnival will also recognise Honourable Dr. Mathew Damkor for his contributions to public service and governance, as well as his efforts toward community advancement and inclusive development.
Another recipient, Professor Terkura Michael Agbir, is being honoured for his academic excellence, mentorship, and contributions to research and human capacity development, which have influenced both policy and practice within and beyond the region. Ambassador Ms. Eunice Iornongu will receive an award for her service in diplomacy, advocacy, and representation, particularly in promoting community interests and social causes at national and international levels.
The final awardee on the list is Honourable Emmanuel Terna Shimawua, who is being recognised for his dedication to public service and his role in fostering grassroots development and community cohesion.
The Mbadede Carnival, which runs from 23 to 26 December 2025, is a major cultural event celebrating the heritage, arts, and traditions of the Mbadede people. In addition to the awards ceremony, the carnival features traditional dances, artistic performances, and other cultural exhibitions.
The organisers have invited members of the public, cultural groups, and well-wishers to support the event through sponsorships and participation. The Central Planning Committee has assured that all supporters and contributors will be publicly acknowledged during the carnival, while calling on the general public to attend and be part of the celebration of culture, service, and excellence.
