The Women Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) will host more than 100 adolescent girls from secondary schools across Lagos State on Saturday, October 10, as part of activities marking the International Day of the Girl Child.

The event, scheduled to take place at the OlympAfrica Centre in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, is themed “Her Voice, Her Future: Investing in Girls Through Sports and Education.”
The day-long programme will bring together schoolgirls, young female athletes, coaches and stakeholders from the sports, education and advocacy sectors.
Sports and Education at the Centre
According to the organisers, the programme will feature presentations by women leaders in education, sports and digital technology, alongside mentorship sessions and sporting activities.
The official launch of the “Her Voice” pledge will also form part of the programme.
NOC President, Habu Gumel, said the initiative was designed to draw attention to the rights and potential of young girls while promoting sports and education as tools for empowerment.

“We believe that when you invest in a girl’s education and empower her through sports, you are not just educating one girl, you are giving her a voice to shape her own future,” Gumel said.
He added that the theme was a call to create opportunities where girls could learn, lead and develop their potential rather than face limiting circumstances such as child marriage.
Building Confidence and Leadership
The organisers said the Lagos programme would encourage girls to remain in school while using sports and digital technology to build confidence, skills and leadership capacity.
The recently renovated Olympic Sports Complex in Amuwo-Odofin is expected to provide the setting for sporting activities and interactive sessions aimed at encouraging the participants to see themselves as future leaders.

The Lagos event is expected to provide the participating girls with opportunities to interact with female leaders, develop new skills and gain greater confidence in their ability to contribute to society.
