Thursday, 9 February 2023, remains a memorable day of pride, joy and celebration in the history of the Idoma Kingdom. It was on this remarkable occasion that Abba Adaudu was honoured with the prestigious traditional chieftaincy title of Oyalewa k’Idoma, meaning “The Most Benevolent One of Idoma,” in recognition of his goodwill and contributions to the development of the Idoma Kingdom.

The historic conferment marked a significant milestone, celebrating a man whose recognition reflected the enduring importance of generosity, service and commitment to community development. For the Idoma people, the occasion offered an opportunity to appreciate the value of individuals whose contributions help strengthen the bonds that hold communities together.

The title, Oyalewa k’Idoma, carries a powerful message of benevolence and service. More than a traditional honour, it represents the appreciation of goodwill and the importance of making meaningful contributions to the progress and well-being of society. By bestowing this distinguished title on Abba Adaudu, the occasion placed a spotlight on the values of generosity, leadership and dedication that remain central to the cultural identity of the Idoma people.

The ceremony was also a proud celebration of Idoma heritage and tradition. Chieftaincy titles occupy an important place in many traditional communities, serving as symbols of recognition, responsibility and respect. They provide an opportunity for communities to celebrate individuals whose efforts and contributions are considered worthy of honour, while reinforcing cultural values for future generations.

For Abba Adaudu, the conferment of Oyalewa k’Idoma represented a special moment of recognition and a lasting connection to the rich traditions of the Idoma Kingdom. It was an occasion to celebrate not only the honour itself but also the ideals it represents: kindness, goodwill, service and a shared commitment to community progress.

As the memory of that Thursday in February 2023 lives on, the historic occasion remains a reminder that the most meaningful honours are those rooted in service to others. It celebrates the power of traditional institutions to recognise contributions, preserve cultural identity and inspire a spirit of collective responsibility.

Today, we look back with pride and joy on the day Abba Adaudu received the distinguished title of Oyalewa k’Idoma, a celebration of benevolence, an honour of cultural significance and a proud moment in the story of the Idoma Kingdom.
