The four-hour virtual seminar, scheduled for September 10, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM West Africa Time, focuses on “Licensing of Reprographic and Similar Reproduction in Higher Education Institutions” and promises to reveal strategies for monetising creative content beyond traditional publishing models.

The webinar is a collaborative effort between four prominent intellectual property organisations: the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), and the Reproduction Rights Society of Nigeria (REPRONIG).

According to the chairman of REPRONIG, Gbadega Adedapo, the partnership aims to address knowledge gaps in copyright licensing within Nigeria’s academic and publishing sectors. The collaboration brings together international expertise with local regulatory knowledge to provide comprehensive guidance on intellectual property monetisation.

The webinar specifically targets stakeholders in Nigeria’s higher education and publishing ecosystem, including university faculty, independent authors, academic librarians, and publishing professionals. The session will demonstrate how creative professionals can generate ongoing revenue from their intellectual property even after initial publication.

The educational focus on higher education institutions reflects the significant role academic publishing plays in Nigeria’s intellectual property landscape, where textbooks, research papers, and educational materials represent substantial but often underutilised revenue opportunities for creators.

The virtual format allows participants across Nigeria to access the training without geographical constraints, with registration available through Zoom’s platform. Organisers have indicated that seating is limited, encouraging early registration to secure participation in what they describe as an “exclusive” educational opportunity.

The involvement of WIPO and IFRRO brings international best practices and standards to the Nigerian context, while NCC and REPRONIG provide local regulatory expertise and market knowledge. This combination aims to ensure participants receive both globally relevant strategies and locally applicable guidance.

Interested participants can register through the provided Zoom link.
