Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has issued a clarification on the unfortunate death of Ms Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene, who passed away on 31 January 2026, following complications from a snake bite. Ifunanya was a fast-rising musician based in Abuja.

According to the statement, Ms Nwagene was attended to promptly on arrival, with immediate medical interventions including resuscitation efforts, intravenous fluids, oxygen support, and the administration of polyvalent anti-snake venom.

The hospital explained that she suffered severe neurotoxic complications from the snake bite and, despite intensive efforts by the medical team and preparations for transfer to the ICU, she experienced a sudden deterioration and could not be revived.

FMC Abuja expressed deep condolences to the Nwagene family and firmly refuted claims circulating on social media about the non-availability of anti-snake venom or inadequate response, describing them as unfounded.

The hospital reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professional integrity, and quality patient care, while urging the public to rely on credible sources rather than speculation for information.
