Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) is set to witness an extraordinary week of intellectual and ceremonial milestones as it hosts two major events within days. The first is the institution’s 8th Combined Convocation and 25th Anniversary Celebration, followed closely by a high-profile inaugural lecture by a leading communication scholar.

The university’s 8th Combined Convocation Ceremony and silver jubilee celebration will take place from April 8 to 11, 2026, marking 25 years of academic excellence, institutional growth, and contributions to national development. The event, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, is expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria’s academic, political, and professional landscape, including Nasarawa State Governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule.
Barely days after the convocation, the institution will again take centre stage in national discourse as it hosts the 59th Inaugural Lecture on April 15, 2026. The lecture will be delivered by Emmanuel S. Dandaura, Professor of Strategic and Development Communication and Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
The lecture, titled “When Applause Lies: Communication, Power, and the War Between Reputation and Perception in Nigeria,” is expected to interrogate the dynamics of public perception, influence, and power in shaping national narratives.
According to a statement by Registrar of the Institute and Chairman of the NIPR Presidential National Planning Committee, Uzoma Onyegbadue, the lecture represents a critical moment for intellectual engagement within the communication profession.
“This platform mobilises participation and support for an intellectual engagement central to our profession and national development,” Onyegbadue stated, describing the event as a pinnacle of thought leadership. He further disclosed that the President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, Dr Ike Neliaku, constituted the Presidential National Planning Committee to coordinate the event, calling on practitioners nationwide to contribute ideas and support.

“This milestone advances scholarship and nation-building,” Onyegbadue emphasised, urging active engagement to sustain the institute’s tradition of excellence.
Activities for the inaugural lecture will commence at 12:00 noon with a Command Performance at the Theatre Arts Auditorium, featuring creative showcases that explore the intersection of communication, culture, and society, alongside goodwill messages from invited guests. The programme will then proceed to the Assembly Hall at 2:00 p.m. for the main lecture.
The convergence of these two high-impact events within a single week underscores NSUK’s growing stature as a hub for academic excellence, professional discourse, and cultural engagement in Nigeria. Observers note that the timing not only amplifies the university’s visibility but also positions it as a key site for conversations shaping the future of communication and national development.
