The incubator, being implemented by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), invites applications from media professionals, innovators, and technologists who will collaborate to co-create AI-powered tools addressing real-world challenges in the regional media landscape.

Selected participants will receive dedicated mentorship, technical and product development support, networking opportunities, and seed grants for scaling their innovations after completing the incubator programme. The initiative represents a significant government investment in leveraging technology to strengthen journalism and media accountability across West Africa.

The programme targets professionals with expertise in several key areas, including artificial intelligence and machine learning; software development covering web, mobile, or backend systems; user experience and product design; data science and data engineering; natural language processing; and journalism, media research, or fact-checking.

To qualify for the incubator, applicants must be available to fully participate in all programme activities scheduled from September to November 2025. Candidates must also demonstrate strong interest in leveraging technology to address real-world challenges in media and journalism, along with proven problem-solving abilities.

The application deadline is set for September 14th, 2025, giving interested professionals limited time to prepare their submissions for this pioneering initiative.

By bringing together diverse expertise from technology and journalism sectors, the AI in Journalism Incubator 2.0 programme aims to create sustainable solutions that can be scaled across West African markets.

The incubator’s focus on co-creation between technologists and media professionals is an approach that prioritises practical, industry-relevant solutions over purely technical innovations.
