Something remarkable is coming to Sokoto State as about 1,500 vulnerable residents are set to receive a major humanitarian boost from the Shamies Unusual Heart Foundation (SUHF).
The Foundation is preparing to hold its eighth Founder’s Day and Mega Humanitarian Outreach in Sokoto under the theme “Bringing Hope Home” a decision that carries a deeply personal meaning for its founder, Dr. Saratu Abdullahi.
The one-day intervention is expected to become the Foundation’s largest single-day humanitarian outreach since its establishment, bringing together support in healthcare, education, economic empowerment, humanitarian relief, correctional welfare and community development.
Dr. Abdullahi disclosed the plans during a courtesy visit to Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, where she formally presented the Foundation’s forthcoming intervention.
For vulnerable households, women and displaced persons, the outreach is expected to provide immediate relief while also creating opportunities for longer-term improvement in livelihoods.
Children will also be part of the intervention through a back-to-school initiative that will provide branded school bags and educational materials. Beneficiaries will receive medical screening and treatment, while eye examinations and glasses will be provided to those who require them.
But the Foundation’s plans go beyond simply handing out relief materials.
Dr. Abdullahi said SUHF wants the intervention to help people regain dignity, strengthen livelihoods and contribute to human capital development within communities.
One of the most striking parts of the outreach will be its intervention at the Sokoto Custodial Centre, where inmates are expected to receive mattresses and other welfare items.
For the Foundation, returning to Sokoto is also about giving back.
Dr. Abdullahi explained that choosing her founder’s home state for the eighth anniversary was driven by a desire to give back to the state and communities that played an important role in shaping her life.
The visit also became an opportunity to recognise leadership. SUHF presented Governor Ahmed Aliyu with an Award of Excellence in appreciation of his leadership, developmental efforts and support for humanitarian initiatives across Sokoto State.
Dr. Abdullahi particularly commended the governor’s Nine-Point SMART Agenda, saying the state was showing signs of a new direction focused on infrastructure, human capital, social investment and community development.
Governor Aliyu, accompanied by his deputy, Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, and Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Hon. Bashar Ummarun Kwabo, welcomed the initiative.

The governor assured the Foundation of the state government’s support and cooperation, describing the outreach as a valuable complement to government efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable residents.
For the approximately 1,500 people expected to benefit, the intervention represents more than a one-day distribution of assistance.
It is a reminder that sometimes, hope does not have to travel far.
Sometimes, it comes home.
