The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has expelled 42 students over examination malpractice following investigations by the institution’s Examination Malpractice Committee.
The affected students comprise 31 Higher National Diploma (HND) and 11 National Diploma (ND) students from different institutes and programmes within the Polytechnic.

Examination Malpractice Investigation
The decision was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Board Matters Division, Ibrahim Esin.
According to the statement, the students were investigated by the Polytechnic’s Examination Malpractice Committee after allegations of examination malpractice were made against them.
Following the investigation, the committee found the students guilty of the offences.
The management said the disciplinary action was taken in line with the provisions of the institution’s Students’ Handbook and was approved by the appropriate authorities.
Institute With Highest Number Of Expulsions
The Institute of Finance and Management Studies recorded the highest number of expulsions, with 23 students affected.
The Institute of Technology followed with eight students, while four students each were expelled from the Institute of Information and Communication Technology and the Centre for Continuing Education.
Two students from the Institute of Health Technology and one student from the Institute of General Studies were also expelled.
The expelled students were enrolled in various programmes, including Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Strategic Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Medical Imaging Technology, Microfinance and Entrepreneurship Development, and Procurement and Supply Chain Management.
Polytechnic Ends Students’ Academic Relationship
The Polytechnic said the expulsions bring the students’ relationship with the institution to an end.
Management also directed the affected students to return any Polytechnic property still in their possession.
The items are to be handed over to their respective Heads of Department or other designated authorities.
The institution said the disciplinary action followed the conclusion of the examination malpractice investigations and approval by the relevant authorities.
