On 21 August, suspected terrorists attacked worshippers during Friday prayers at Kpenya Mosque, Borgu LGA, Niger State. Niger State Information Commissioner Obed Nana confirmed the attack and said Governor Mohammed Bago ordered intensified rescue operations. The number abducted remains officially unconfirmed.

On 23 August HURIWA Coordinator Emmanuel Nnadozie Onwubiko gave President Tinubu three weeks to establish an independent judicial inquiry into alleged killings disappearances torture arbitrary arrests and extortion in the South East. The allegations require independent investigation and are not established findings.

N1.13 TRILLION COST OF NEW FEDERAL STRUCTURES RAISES FISCAL QUESTIONS

A 24 August Guardian investigation estimates that six ministries and five regional development commissions created or expanded under President Tinubu account for about N1.13 trillion in 2026 allocations.
