Media Advocacy West Africa (MAWA-Foundation) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alanna Hartzok to its esteemed Board of Trustees, effective August 27, 2023.
A respected educator, activist, and lecturer specialising in economic justice, land rights, and land-value tax reform, Alanna Hartzok has joined the team at MAWA-Foundation. With extensive knowledge and experience, she has delivered presentations in nearly 40 countries worldwide.
Hartzok has held significant roles, including co-director of the Earth Rights Institute, General Secretary for the International Union for Land Value Taxation, Global Outreach Coordinator for the Robert Schalkenback Foundation, and a valued member of the Advisory Council for the Prout Research Institute of Venezuela.
Noteworthy is her leadership in developing an online course and training programme in partnership with UN-HABITAT’s Global Land Tool Network. This initiative has successfully enrolled over 900 participants from 95 countries.
Among her notable achievements is the award-winning book “The Earth Belongs to Everyone” (2008), which received the Radical Middle Book Award. She was honoured with the International Earth Day Award from the Earth Society Foundation in 2011.
Hartzok’s impressive resume also extends to her political engagement. In 2014, she emerged as a Democratic candidate in the U.S. House election for Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District, securing an uncontested victory in the Democratic primary on May 20, 2014.
In an official statement, the coordinator of MAWA-Foundation, Audu Liberty Oseni, expressed enthusiasm about Hartzok’s inclusion, underscoring the invaluable perspective and expertise she brings to the organisation’s growth and mission fulfilment.
“We warmly welcome Hartzok to our team,” Oseni remarked.
