The Benue State government has initiated a Humanitarian Needs Assessment (HNA) in collaboration with Save the Children International (SCI). The Stakeholder Consultative Meeting was spearheaded by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Joseph Alakali. The meeting brought together key stakeholders, government officials, and partners from UNHCR and UNDP state teams, demonstrating the state’s unwavering commitment to addressing diverse humanitarian challenges.
Save the Children International, led by Field Operation Manager Oluseyi Abejide, lauded Benue State’s significance in its humanitarian endeavours, acknowledging Governor Alia’s unwavering dedication to children’s welfare and the return of internally displaced persons to their homes. The meeting included a comprehensive review of HNA tools and the signing of a non-financial agreement between SCI and the Benue State Government, showcasing the strategic partnership between the state and the global non-profit organisation.
Director General of the Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, Aondoaseer Viashima, emphasised the initiative’s strategic significance, anticipating it as a catalyst for attracting crucial donor support and heralding a new era in humanitarian efforts within the state.
Governor Alia, represented by Prof. Alakali, expressed profound gratitude for Save the Children International’s steadfast support and stressed the importance of active participation in the consultative process and the subsequent humanitarian needs assessment. The governor encouraged stakeholders to collaborate actively, envisioning a future where compassion and resilience define Benue State’s response to humanitarian needs.
The Benue state government reiterated its continuous support for genuine humanitarian and development partners, aiming to assist vulnerable children and adults in settling and resuming their normal lives.
