The Foundation for Investigative Journalism’s journalist, Daniel Ojukwu, who was arrested on May 1 by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) for allegedly violating the Cybercrime Act, 2015, regained his freedom on May 10.

This is coming one day after some civil society organisations and journalists protested his arrest on Thursday, May 9, 2024. The news of his release from custody was published on the website of the FIJ.

In a statement signed by the chairman of the FIJ board of trustees, Bukky Shonibare, the organisation thanked all who contributed to ensuring the release of Daniel Ojukwu from police custody, while stating that they intend to use all legal means to ensure he gets justice.

Daniel was said to have published a report on the misappropriation of funds by a top government official.
