The national grid crashed early on Monday, marking the sixth time such an incident will occur in 2024. With generation falling to 64.70 megawatts, the blackout hit regions across the country.
The transmission business of Nigeria’s Independent System Operator (ISO) provided the data that showed that Ibom Power was the sole generation business that continued to operate throughout the outage. The country’s electrical needs were not being met by this one source in the middle of the grid failure.
Confirming the collapse in a statement, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), Dr. Friday Elijah, said: “The current outage being experienced within our franchise states is a result of a loss of power supply from the national grid. The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred in the early hours of today, Monday, April 15, 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.”
He, however, expressed optimism for a swift resolution and conveyed hopes for the prompt restoration of the grid to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the company’s esteemed customers.
