Celebrations Abound as Uzo Iweala Ties the Knot in Germany

Dr. Uzo Iweala, the son of former Nigerian Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, and current Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, recently exchanged vows with his beloved, Lotte Elsa. The wedding ceremony took place in Germany.

The memorable day was captured in a series of photographs shared by the groom’s aunt, Njide Okonjo-Iweala. As the world joined in on the festivities, Njide penned a heartfelt note to commemorate the occasion, emphasising the importance of upholding cultural traditions.

Honouring Nigerian and Igbo Traditions

Njide Okonjo-Iweala underlined the significance of traditional marriage rites in Nigerian and Igbo culture, mentioning the “Igba Nkwu Nwanyi,” a customary celebration integral to any union. “As Nigerians and proud members of the Igbo community, it is customary to honour our traditional marriage rites,” she explained.

The Power of Community Support

The wedding ceremony was a testament to the power of community and the support of loved ones. Njide described how Uzo and Lotte were surrounded by their village, with friends and family present to honour and celebrate this momentous occasion. She noted, “It takes a village, and Uzo and Lotte had their village there to honour and celebrate them.”

Njide concluded her message with heartfelt wishes for the newlyweds, stating, “To our newest couple, Uzodinma Iweala and Lotte Elsa, may your journey be filled with continued happiness and love. We cherish and adore both of you.”
