US President Donald Trump has announced that South Africa will not be invited to the 2026 G20 summit, citing alleged human rights abuses against white people in the country. Trump made the announcement after removing South Africa’s content from the G20 website, replacing it with a picture of himself and the words “Miami 2026”.

The move marks the first time a member has been excluded from the G20 in its two-decade history. Trump claimed that South Africa had refused to hand over the G20 presidency to a US Embassy representative, a claim disputed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa has dismissed Trump’s allegations as “blatant misinformation” and reaffirmed South Africa’s status as a founding member of the G20. The South African government has expressed regret over the US decision, stating that it will continue to participate as a full member of the G20.

The G20 summit is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, in 2026, with Trump prioritizing economic growth, energy security, and technological innovation as core themes
