AkweyaTV has aired an exclusive entertainment interview featuring fast-rising Benue artist Matoski, whose Akweya-language hit Osirigwude has continued to gain attention across social media and among music lovers in Benue State and beyond.
The interview, conducted by Folusho Ogar on behalf of AkweyaTV’s regular entertainment host Maurice Ajah, was broadcast on the station’s entertainment segment, where the singer opened up about his journey into music, the meaning behind his stage name, the inspiration for his songs, and the challenges of navigating the music industry.
Speaking during the interview, the artist explained that his stage name “Matoski” was coined from his birth name, Matthias.
As an artist, you need a name that suits the industry and sounds unique. That was why I came up with Matoski,” he said.
The singer described music as a calling rather than a career he deliberately chose.

I’m not the one doing music; music is doing me,” he remarked, adding that people around him recognised his singing talent from childhood and encouraged him to pursue it seriously.
Although he acknowledged the influence of Nigeria’s major Afrobeats stars, Matoski revealed that Omah Lay is the artist who inspires him the most because of his emotional songwriting and ability to connect with people going through difficult experiences. He also praised Davido for his collaborative spirit and openness to working with other artists.
A major highlight of the interview was Matoski’s discussion of “Osirigwude,” the Akweya-language song that brought him widespread recognition.
“That song really changed my life. Before it, I was an underground artist. When it started going viral, people were calling me and saying they had seen it everywhere,” he recalled.
He explained that Osirigwude carries a message of love, unity, and peaceful coexistence, urging people to embrace one another regardless of differences.
“Where there is love, there is growth and progress. Without love, there is hatred and downfall,” he said.
The artist also spoke about collaborating with other Benue-based musicians, including a song titled “Mma”—meaning small-small or take it easy—which encourages young people to grow gradually and not rush success.
On the challenges of fame, Matoski admitted that the spread of rumors and negative comments became difficult to handle after his breakthrough.
“You begin to hear things that are not true. At first, it affected me, but my manager advised me to look and ignore,” he said.
Looking ahead, the singer announced that he is preparing to release a new single titled “Sapa,” a song that explores the economic struggles faced by many young Nigerians. According to him, the track is expected to drop on all major streaming platforms before the end of the month.
In his closing remarks, Matoski thanked his fans and supporters for promoting his music and appealed for continued support.
“Keep reposting my songs and don’t get tired of supporting me until we get to where we are going,” he said.
