The Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) Alumni Association has welcomed the suspension of the industrial action by the university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), describing the development as an important step towards restoring academic activities.
The association also commended individuals and groups that contributed to the negotiations and mediation that led to an agreement between ASUU and the university’s Governing Council.

Alumni Association Commends Mediation Efforts
In a statement, the association said it was pleased to have played a significant role in the mediation process that helped bring the prolonged dispute to an end.
The association said the suspension followed wide ranging agreements reached between ASUU and the Governing Council on issues at the centre of the dispute.
It described the peaceful resolution as a positive development for students, lecturers, parents and other members of the university community.
Government And Council Urged To Honour Agreement
While welcoming the suspension, the alumni association called on the Nasarawa State Government and the university’s Governing Council to fulfil their commitments under the agreement.
It said honouring the terms reached with the lecturers would be important in preventing another disruption of academic activities.
“We urge the Nasarawa State Government and the Governing Council to faithfully fulfil their part of the bargain to avert further industrial disharmony in the university,” the association said.
Lecturers Asked To Resume Academic Activities
The alumni body also appealed to members of ASUU to reciprocate the government’s gesture by returning to the classrooms and remaining committed to the academic development of the institution.
It stressed that students should not be made to bear the consequences of prolonged industrial disputes, particularly as disruptions to the academic calendar can affect their studies and graduation plans.
The association further called on all parties to maintain open communication and use dialogue to address any future disagreements.
Stakeholders Commended
The alumni association expressed appreciation to individuals, groups and other stakeholders who intervened in the dispute and helped facilitate a peaceful resolution.
It said the return of academic activities would allow the university community to refocus on teaching, learning, research and the broader development of the institution.
The association urged all parties to build on the latest agreement and sustain the dialogue that produced the resolution.
